People who take off your masks

There are people who take off your masks,
The masks behind which we hide from the heartbreak of daily life,
People who are Temples where the laws of nature take their course:
Hunger,
Rage,
Passion,

(You were banging the walls from inside your silver cube and I knew it was because of the Universal disaster, because it hurts. That's why we looked at the pain face on, that's why I sometimes don’t understand beauty. That’s why when I looked inside myself it felt like looking at the void from a cliff. Because of the years I spent putting on masks at parties. That's why the high-heels, that's why the elite Universities. For, approximately, not to exist).

People who take off your masks are visceral cycles without manners.
They smell of guts and of how things smell when one is alive.
When one feels alive,
Where “The life”,
Yes, where “The life”.

You can recognize them by their accent to poetry, by their glass pupils, because once you touch them you smell of their being forever, and, by their planet:

A planet inspired in Klimt and Tarkovsky
Where it’s always full moon,
With golden skies and forests of black trees and blood geysers,
Full of mirrors,
With lamps of salt so that the ritual of the circles can free you from the mundane suburban neighbourhood from which you came.

(I swear that I try to find the meaning to life with all my strength, which is not nihilism. Your back was red because the candle wax was thrown over you when it burned the most. You lying on your stomach on the dark soil, by the charcoal, in the burial of the dead. The revelation that others are also in pain for being alive is what makes me connect with beauty).

There you were, in the depths, at a dance party without masks, waiting for me behind the fire, looking at me from your glass pupils,

Talking to me,

In conversations that are games of mirrors,
That sometimes sound like broken glasses
Because the great truths are spoken in sharp cuts on the skin.

(And now what? Now, we get into Pina Bausch’s mind, we sing to a microphone while we breathe, with a saxophone in the background. Then, we make a dress out of red balloons and we puncture them. We also dress up, on gauze and silk long dresses, with our hair down, and, we throw buckets of water at each other at the rhythm of a piano and a guitar. Do you see now how happy we are dancing a tango with the mane in the air? Have you seen how fun is to slide down a plastic slide in the mist of a cascade of bucket water whilst a sea lion walks beside us? Then, we dance Portuguese samba on a beach with an electric blue light, full of watermelons. And, we feed watermelon to the chickens).

Now,
the beauty,
Not the beauty of flowers,
Not the beauty of babies,
Not the beauty of white dresses,
But beauty in raw, the beauty of the confessions of the things we took from under the carpet,

(We are awake because we know of destruction and despite of that we crossed the muddy river until we reached the shore where our dreams were. The shore of laughter. Where, finally, we allowed ourselves to laugh without guilt. That’s why, when you took off my Mask I was full of life, full of life, full of life, full of life).

Now, I can stand in front of any mirror, arms wide open and say:

My life is not a lie,
My life is not a lie,

My life is not a lie,

Thank you,

mother,
female friends,
sisters,
female lovers,

For connecting me with the blood of life ever since I'm a cosmic being.

Querer Morir (Anne Sexton)

(Anne Sexton at home reading wanting to die)

he poseído al enemigo, he comido al enemigo,
he aprendido su arte y magia.

y, no obstante, ella me espera, año a año,

Wanting to Die

Since you ask, most days I cannot remember.
I walk in my clothing, unmarked by that voyage.
Then the almost unnameable lust returns.

Even then I have nothing against life.
I know well the grass blades you mention,
the furniture you have placed under the sun.

But suicides have a special language.
Like carpenters they want to know which tools.
They never ask why build.

Twice I have so simply declared myself,
have possessed the enemy, eaten the enemy,
have taken on his craft, his magic.

In this way, heavy and thoughtful,
warmer than oil or water,
I have rested, drooling at the mouth-hole.

I did not think of my body at needle point.
Even the cornea and the leftover urine were gone.
Suicides have already betrayed the body.

Still-born, they don’t always die,
but dazzled, they can’t forget a drug so sweet
that even children would look on and smile.

To thrust all that life under your tongue!—
that, all by itself, becomes a passion.
Death’s a sad bone; bruised, you’d say,

and yet she waits for me, year after year,
to so delicately undo an old wound,
to empty my breath from its bad prison.

Balanced there, suicides sometimes meet,
raging at the fruit a pumped-up moon,
leaving the bread they mistook for a kiss,

leaving the page of the book carelessly open,
something unsaid, the phone off the hook
and the love whatever it was, an infection.

The mothers of no one

My mother:

- Mommy, where is the hairdryer?
- Where you left it.
- No, it isn’t there.
- If I go there and find it, I’ll pull out every single hair on your head until you’re bald.

-When you have your own home, you can to do whatever you like. Whilst you live at my home, you will do as I say.

“By extinguishing the family you can extinguish the original form of humiliation. Of barbarism”. (The centre of the world, Angélica Liddell).

Capitalism kills drama
There are beings that grow up on rocks haunted by the flow of the waves, in shipwrecks, or, on a whale’s back. They live in cracks, on surfaces exposed to the sun, the saltpetre and other skirmishes. These beings are sort of mirrors in which we can reflect ourselves with the vulnerable dimension of our forms of life. Forms of life already fully muddied in this really turbid medium to which we are exposed.

Dissident life, precarious life, the life of a whore, the life of a survivor. Inhabiting cracks, surviving burns, rust, saltpetre and strong winds. Sweetened by underclass beauty: to wear her old dress, to end the night in a dark room in that district of London, surrounded by tits, to run around stealing sentences for my inner world. Living anywhere, living in spite of everything.

When you have been a “crack being” for long enough, there is no drama.

The place where you live is going to be demolished to build luxury apartments that you’d never be able to afford, there is no drama.
You need to leave, again, to live in another country leaving books and lovers and the favourite cracks of your city behind, there is no drama.
Your fingers are like a strainer of affection through which people slip running in all directions, there is no drama.
You have an abortion, angry, confronting the certainty that you couldn’t take care of anyone else but yourself, there is no drama.

Me, alone, with my underclass beauty facing my defeats. Me, alone with my vulnerabilities.

Me, in my body.
My body, my battlefield.
My body, my resistance box.
My body, my fertility vessel.

Dissidence at a baby rhythm
Babies smell of humanity, of humanity without cynicism, of an inner trip. Their smell elevates me to a dimension of unconditional love, of slow and irrational rhythms. Of surrendering to a future that bonds my present with the eternal. An extremely beautiful utopia that is totally incompatible with my life of being of the cracks.

Some days I search cunts/cracks hoping to find a uterus to get into. To curl up in its wet and warm walls and fall asleep. To contract myself until becoming a fertilised egg, with more than one hundred cells. Then, to levitate in the amniotic liquid until breaking water and giving birth. To give birth to myself, with my rhythm and my cycles, with my underclass beauty, the only thing that always tells me the truth.

My truth of the mother of no-one, with my selfish neurosis, with my social monstrosity, my own mother, my own daughter.

PS: Coincidence: to write about being no-one’s mother and about giving birth to myself on my birth day.
